Please read these poster guidelines carefully & completely. Below you can download a PDF version of SDPA's poster application for the 2025 Conference on The Practice of Addiction Psychology. There is also information about dates & costs on the flyer beneath the download link. Poster acceptance requires conference registration.

All poster content is required to be based on empircal evidence and to include citations (minimum 3, max 10, less than 10 years old). Posters (including literature reviews) should include:

  • Introduction/Background section (including research questions or problems address in the poster)

  • Methods/Research Design section (including methods for choosing studies for literature reviews; proposed studies should include proposed methods & statistical analyses)

  • Results section with empirical findings (when applicable)

  • Conclusions section including implications & limitations of the study (when applicable)

  • A QR code that links to references cited in the poster if a references section is not included on the poster

  • Use of AI in poster development must be disclosed, detailing AI's role, usage, timing, and extent of contribution, both within the application for poster appoval and within all materials utilized. Consistent with the APA Continuing Education Committee Code of Conduct on Generative AI, posters should clearly state how AI was used in developing the poster, the application, and any other materials submitted

Guidelines:

  • Size: Approximately 36" tall x 48" wide

  • Mounted or attached to a board of the same size (foam or heavy cardboard). A tri-fold science fair board will work if clipped securely

  • Presenters are responsible for mounting their posters on the morning of the conference and removing them at the end of the day

  • Each poster needs an easel. SDPA does not provide easels

  • Each poster must include text in large enough font (~20pt) to be read easily by attendees from a reasonable distance (about 4-5 feet)

  • Lettering on illustrations & charts should be clear & legible

  • Photographs must be a minimum of 5x7 inches

  • Material should be displayed in a logical sequence (e.g. Intro, Methods, Results, Conclusions)

  • Using techniques that improve the graphic impact will enhance the effectiveness of a poster presentation. Please keep in mind that simplicity, ease of reading, etc. are more important than artistic flair

  • Avoid overcrowding figures & cramming too many numbers into tables

  • Accompany all figures, tables, photographs, etc. with legends & titles to allow their immediate identification

  • All tables, figures, graphs, etc. should be in APA format

  • No commercial activities or advertising may be displayed on the posters. Non-compliance with this rule will result in the poster being removed from the conference

  • Authors may wish to bring extra copies of their data & conclusions. No duplication facilities will be available

  • Authors may also wish to provide sign-up sheets for attendees who may want additional information, reprints, etc

Please review the APA article on The Perfect Poster to help you in this process.
